Periwinkle Coil

Methods and techniques: mixed media painting collage on a cradled panel. Various mediums, including acrylics, ink, acrylic markers, pens, and spray paint, are applied to wet media polyester film, creating layers of depth and texture. These elements are then cut and collaged onto the panel, further enhancing the multidimensional nature of the artwork. Finally, the piece is finished with a glossy resin coating, enriching the colors and providing a luminous sheen. The included hanging hardware consists of D-rings and wire for immediate hanging, although professional framing will offer the best display results.

"Periwinkle Coil" is an abstract mixed media collage artwork inspired by the traditional Ukrainian song "несе Галя воду" (Galya is carrying water) where Galya, a young girl carrying pails of water, encounters her admirer Ivanko. Ivanko, captivated by Galya's beauty, metaphorically "coils around her like a periwinkle" in an attempt to get closer to her and request a sip of the water she carries. "The twisting green line works and designs present within the composition symbolize Ivanko's winding steps, while the bright colors evoke the vibrant atmosphere of the scene between the young lovers."
